1-13 First-Year Boy

 

   On March 11th, the day of the earthquake, I was studying at school. On that day, I experienced an earthquake like I had never experienced in my life before. All I could think of was the powerful quake. At that time, I never imagined that a tsunami would come too. We ran to the schoolyard and within three minutes, my father came to pick me up. My father and I tried to go back home to watch the tsunami. But then we saw someone riding away from the direction of Kesen Junior High School on a bicycle. In a loud voice, that person yelled for us to escape to a higher place. We ran up into the mountain and saw the tsunami, and I was surprised by how big it was.

   From that day, I chopped firewood and carried water, all the time afraid of another earthquake. We were able to survive because of the help we got from many people, but electricity and running water were gradually restored and slowly our life has returned to the way it was before. Now I'm living a normal life, going to school and being able to eat meals every day.

   If a large earthquake like the one that happened that day occurs, I want to act as if a tsunami is going to happen.

   ぼくは、震災になった三月十一日は学校で勉強をしてる所でした。あの日ぼくは人生で経験した事のないような大きな地震を経験しました。ぼくは大きなゆれで頭がいっぱいになりました。その時は津波のことなど頭にありませんでした。

   みんなで校庭に避難して３分ほどたつと、ぼくのお父さんがむかえに来てくれました。一緒に家に帰って津波を見に行こうとしたときに気仙中学校の方から自転車でにげてくる人がいました 。その人は「逃げて～」と 大きな声でぼくと、お父さんに言ってきました。山ににげて山から津波を見てすごく大きいのでびっくりしました。ぼくはその日以降地震におびえながらまき割りや水くみをしていました。いろんな人に支援されながら生活していたけど、だんだんに水も電気もきて、元のような生活を送っていました。

   そして今は、学校にも通い、しっかりご飯も食べれる普通の毎日を暮らしています。

   ぼくはあの日を機に大きな地震がきたら、まず津波が来るかもしれないと考えて行動したいです。
