1-25 First-Year Girl
All of a sudden during class, an enormous earthquake struck. We immediately hid under the desks. At the time I was so terrified, because shelves were falling down and walls were cracking. The principal ordered us out to the schoolyard, so we evacuated there.
The schoolyard was cracked and the statue was broken. It was my first time experiencing such a big earthquake. Some people started to cry. After a while, my mom came to the school to pick me up. I had been thinking that I'd be able to watch TV or study as usual when I got home. However, before we got back home, the tsunami came. The tsunami was much greater than I thought it would be. Instantly, houses and cars were swept away.
We evacuated to Gassan. A few people were trapped at a factory and they needed help. After a while, a helicopter came to rescue them. It started to snow so we went to ask for permission to enter the shrine. While we were waiting, people who had been swept away by the tsunami were brought there. All of their bodies were covered with mud so I had no clue who they were. Inside the shrine, we used candles because there were no lights. I was grateful that they provided us with food and blankets to keep us warm.
The next day, when I went outside all I could see were heaps of rubble. People moved the debris to make a road. Using that road, we went to an elementary school. I was so happy that I could meet my friends who I hadn't yet seen that day.

授業中、いきなり大きな地震がきました。私達はすぐ、机の下にかくれました。棚が倒れたり、かべにひびが入ったりして、その時はきょう怖でいっぱいでした。
校長先生が、「校庭にひなんしなさい。」と、言ったので、私達は、ひなんしました。
校庭はひびわれていて、像は折れていました。生まれて初めて、こんな大きな地震を、経験しました。泣き出してしまう人もいました。しばらくしてから、お母さんが迎えにきてくれました。私は家に帰ったら、テレビを見たり、勉強を当たり前のようにするのだと思っていました。しかし、家に入る前に津波がきました。津波は予想以上でした。家や車などあっという間に流されました。
私達は、月山にひなんしました。工場に人が数人いて、助けを求めていました。しばらくして、ヘリコプターが救助にきました。
雪が降ってきたので月山の中へ入らせてもらえるようにたのみに行きました。
待っていたら、流された人が運ばれてきました。全身、どろまみれで、誰なのか分かりませんでした。月山の中では、明かりがないので、ろうそくを使いました。食べものをもらったり、ふとんなど寒くないようにしてもらい、うれしかったです。
次の日、外に出てみると、あたり一面がれきの山でした。がれきをどけて、道をつくってくれました。私達は小学校に行きました。1日ぶりに友だちに会えてうれしかったです。
